Review: Joe Young Dons "Invincible Armour" it's Time for War

"Wu-Tang Clan ain't nothing to fuck with" and they still ain't. Carrying on in the way of the Wu is Joe Young.

Heard on tracks like Max B's "Sliver Surfer" and DMX's "MOE Wings," Joe Young offers his first album on November 25th titled "Invincible Armour" complete with 12 deadly tracks.

"Invincible Armour" opens up with the definition of the album as Joe describes "Invincible Armour" as the beginning of war chanting, "Invincible Armour means war" in the intro.

You get the feel of a Kung-Fu thrashing taking place with the Kung-Fu movie ab libs throughout the album, which is Wu-Tang's recognizable technique. Even more recognizable of the Wu-Tang Clan's influence are the features from Method Man, Inspectach Deck, Raekwon, Ol' Dirty Bastard and even though Ghostface is not on the album, the second single "Crack Babies" uses the same sample as "Metal Lungies" from "The Pretty Toney Album."

"Invincible Armour" spotlights the Eagle Claw as the deadliest of all Kung-Fu techniques and Joe uses it to put rappers on notice in "No Love Lost" calling them, "Sweet with Uggs on they feet" and declaring that "Invincible Armour" is hip-hop to the fullest." Joe continues to bury emcees with ODB having the shovel on "DIRT."

Even though "Invincible Armour" is war throughout, Joe ends it with love on "What's Love" featuring producer Dame Grease and Bigga Threat. The three combine to ask where's the love and goes on to describe hood love, which is love for your homie, your environment and your family.

As you absorb that love after Joe's take on the Wu-Tang technique you realize that "Invincible Armour" is not as deadly as Wu-Tang's classics like "36 Chambers" and "Wu-Tang Forever," but what is and listening wasn't that bad. Besides anything is worth listening to if you get to hear ODB on more time.
